IT enterprises boasted the highest annual salaries in China, about 122,478 yuan (17,865 U.S. dollars) on average in 2016, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said in a statement on Saturday.

This was the first time that IT enterprises surpassed financial enterprises, ranking first among various sectors. Financial enterprises had a yearly average salary of 117,418 yuan, according to the statement.

Average annual salaries in China's non-private sector rose by 8.9 percent in 2016 to 67,569 yuan, but the growth rate was 1.2 percent less than that in 2015. Employees from private sectors saw salaries up 8.2 percent to 42,833 yuan.

The survey covered 1.67 million enterprises involving 179 million employees from non-private sectors and 642,000 private firms which took up 8 percent of the country's total private enterprises.

The NBS also released data about the profits of China's major industrial firms in the first four months of this year. The companies reported a 24.4-percent profit increase in the four-month period from one year earlier, the NBS said.
