Jack Ma, executive chairman and founder of the Alibaba Group, said here on Tuesday that Hong Kong is a place with huge local and global opportunities especially for youth and entrepreneurs.
He made the remarks at the finale of "JUMPSTARTER 2017," a startup competition co-organized by Alibaba Hong Kong Entrepreneurs Fund launched by the Alibaba Group.
Hong Kong has a policy that welcomes people from all over the world, Ma said, adding that such open-mindedness enables young people and entrepreneurs in Hong Kong to bear larger interests in mind to think not only locally but also globally.
Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, said Hong Kong is now facing an era when opportunities and challenges co-exist.
It is important to seize the opportunities and bring strength to Hong Kong, she said.
Lam noted that one unique advantage of Hong Kong is that it is situated in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area under the policy of "one country, two systems."
Lam said she expected to see more public-private partnership in the incubation of entrepreneurs of this kind in Hong Kong.
Three startups, Cuttingedge Medtech Ltd., EN-TRAK Hong Kong Limited, and Farm66 Investment Limited, won in the final-pitch of "JUMPSTARTER 2017," with each receiving up to 1 million U.S. dollars prize in investment.
"JUMPSTARTER 2017" is jointly organized by Alibaba Hong Kong Entrepreneurs Fund, Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited, and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, with the aim to support the development of Hong Kong's local startups and promote its startup scene.
