Based on the latest data of nationwide census, most centenarians in our country are currently in the south along the river basins, mainly gathering in the Yangtze River delta, Pearl River Delta, southeast coastal areas, Sichuan and Chongqing region and the Central Plains, mostly in middle and lower hills, alluvial plain and alluvial plain areas.
Regional agglomeration of centenarians hints use that longevity is closely related to natural environment and climate conditions.
These longevous areas are mostly with mild annual mean temperature, abundant annual rainfall, densely covered rivers, high air humidity and sufficient sunlight, which form a pleasant specific condition with fresh air, playing a positive role in longevity.
Dense vegetation and fresh air
Centenarians are mostly in hilly areas with less industrial, noise and other pollutions, dense vegetation and high oxygen concentration, which are beneficial for health and longevity.
The relevant date of CDC shows that many diseases are caused by insufficiency of water intake. Longevity is more possible in areas with sufficient water.
Cold weather impacts longevity
Winter in the northeast and northwest area is long and cold with violent weather changes and dry weather, so there are fewer centenarians.
So far, there are over 60 “longevity towns” affirmed by the GSC, but none is in the Northeast.
In cold weather, human's cardiovascular system will be very sensitive to the external temperature changes, increasing the incidence of coronary heart disease. Coldness will cause peripheral vasoconstriction, blood pressure increment and increase of cardiac load and increase the incidence of myocardial ischemia and MI. Coldness also leads to cold and respiratory system disease.
According to researches, living in the environment with low humidity for long may lead to a weakened immune system. At the air humidity lower than 40%, ciliary movement in nose and lung slows down and may cause respiratory disease.
Hainan is a longevous island
Hainan has the most centenarians in China. Based on statistics, there are 1371 centenarians in Hainan. In other words, there are 13 centenarians in every 100,000 people in Hainan, with the highest longevity index in China.
Longevity index refers to the permillage of population above 90 in the population above 65, which reflects the longevity level in an area.
The Four Features of Longevous
1. Good sleeps.
A research about old people's sleeping status has shown that the death rate will increase with the prolonging of the time to fall asleep (more than 30 minutes) and the decline of sleep efficiency.
This survey reveals that the average sleep time of centenarians is 9.6 hours, 8.33 hours for the old of 80 to 90 years old, and only 7.64 hours for the young old of 60 to 79 years old.
2. Less illnesses.
The statistics indicate that the age illnesses and hospitalization occurring frequently for aged population is 60 to 79, and with the increase of the age, the frequency of sickness and hospitalization will reduce. Centenarians get sick less than once in two years averagely. Therefore, don't be negative or desperate for longevity if your physical condition is not so good before the age of 80.
60 to 79 years old might be a period that some senile diseases occur frequently. In this age group, old people's physical conditions will decrease and the proportion of getting senile chronic diseases will be relatively high because of the increase of the old's ages. But the old people who have lived through this period can resist the challenges from their bodies as well as the changes of the outside conditions due to their good adaptation to the disadvantages of age variance, and the sick proportion will fall down rapidly.
3. Positive attitudes.
The positive attitudes of old people means that they don't take to heart the bad things they encounter and feel as happy as their youths. While negative attitudes include nervousness, fear, loneliness, and so on. The proportion occupied by the longevous with positive attitudes is much higher than those with negative attitudes. More than a half of longevous can always look on the bright side of things when they are in dilemmas.
4. Light diets with vast vegetables.
The diets of the old people in five long-lived areas are mainly light foods, with rice and flour as their staple foods. Vegetables are the essential part of their life -- 90% longevous eat vegetables every day.
