In the silent laboratory, only the sound of keyboard percussion, different content is showed on the screens. On 26th, April, Peng Yingjie is sitting in front of the computer and devoted in it in a laboratory of Peking University. As a 34-year-old Ph.D. Supervisor, he spends most of the time working like this in addition to his lectures everyday.

The vast universe, huge galaxy......these seem to be unreachable, but they are Peng Yingjie's biggest hobby. Because it not only touches him to push the limit, but also represents a kind of philosophy of life. On 13, April, European Astronomical Society announced five winners of European Astronomical Society Award in 2016.The Best Dissertation Award of the Year is for Peng Yingjie, researcher in Peking University. His thesis for the Doctorate has been one of the highest cited article for recent years, and published in the science magazine "nature", becoming one of the recommended paper cover.

He said the he likes to challenge the limit in his heart. “Choosing Astronomy major, I know the universe is infinite, but still want to study on it.” After graduation, he left for Europe to have postgraduate study, and took his doctor's degree in physics in Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Alma Mater of Einstein. “There is my beginning for my academic career.”

During more than 10 years studying and working abroad, Peng Yingjie not only accessed to the academic frontier, but also made friends with some big names. In October, 2015, he declined others' retaining, returning to work in the Peking University. He has tried to get his parents to UK to live, but they could not adapt to the new environment. “I'm the only child. I would like to contribute my efforts for the advancement of scientific research in China. At the same time, our country supports overseas students to come back home. So I decided to return.”

Astronomy is boring for most of us, but interesting for him. When he said something interesting, he would smile like a shy boy-next-door.
