Domestic brands dominate

Domestic names dominated a list for the 10 most chosen consumer brands in China, a latest study showed.

Dairy brand Yili continued to top the list, followed by Mengniu, which moved up one spot from last year, according to Kantar Worldpanel's Brand Footprint Ranking. The ranking was made by combining the number of households purchasing the brands as well as their buying frequency.

"Consumers today want a lifestyle increasingly driven by health, convenience and pleasure and brands will have to radically innovate in their product offer, communication and selling strategies and take a real consumer-centric approach to respond to those changes," said Jason Yu, general manager of Kantar Worldpanel China.

The survey covered sectors including food, beverage, health and beauty and home care.

Xin Xiangyin, a paper tissue brand under Hengan Group, entered the top-10 list for the first time.

Globally, Coca-Cola remained the world's most chosen brand for the fifth time in a row.
