Chinese netizens split over vegans' 'human meat' protest in London

Vegan activists staged a protest in Trafalgar Square, London, against the human consumption of meat, Saturday.

In the protest, some members of anti-meat groups were seen lying down covered in fake blood and plastic wrap to resemble meat sold in supermarkets. It is part of a global call to end "speciesism" or the belief that animals do not have rights and do not need to be respected because they belong to another species.

The protest organized by Direct Action Everywhere also made a sensational headline in China.

As one of the world's largest pork consuming and producing countries, China's netizens are divided over the discussion.

"I'm here to defend vegetables. Vegetables are another species but it is edible. It doesn't make sense. Vegans please apologize to vegetables," commented by Sina user @Nitaniangzhenshigerencai is the most liked comment under Pear Video's report.

And his point was supported by others. "How come vegans can blame others? Others do not force vegans to eat meat. This is insane," said @Blankie_.

"They should stop drinking water. Lots of micro bacteria live there," said @Jiebaozhihefenhongdongnai.

On the contrary, those who support the activists blame opponents. "If you do not understand them then just leave them alone. Do not humiliate them. They might have their own reasons," said @Wojuedewohainenglang.

"I wish a similar protest can happen in China, too," said @Zhuyunmuge.
