Shanghai No.1 Department Store will make its long-awaited comeback Friday after a half-year of renovations, Xinmin Evening News reported Thursday.
Part of its newly renovated seventh floor has been decorated with a theme restoring elements from "Old Shanghai." The floor displays vintage desk clocks, enameled cups, qipao and traditional bicycles, showing the role that consumer goods have played in the lives of local residents.
The relaunching of the classic department store will introduce a mix of leading international brands while also preserving some time-honored local brands. The proportion of catering services at the store has increased to 30 percent, with many new fashionable dining stalls and organic restaurants scattered on every floor.
"The reorganization of our store is a firm step in the transformation and upgrading of all traditional department stores," said Fan Liqun, general manager of the Shanghai No.1 Department Store Commercial Center.
