Wisconsinites express concerns over Foxconn program

Hundreds of local residents in Wisconsin counties of Kenosha and Racine have attended a forum to voice their concerns over tech giant Foxconn's 10-billion-dollar project there.

Some attendees raised concerns about the plant's environmental impact on Wednesday's forum held by Carthage College in Kenosha city. Others expressed worries about the potential cultural shock from an influx of workers from outside the community, the Kenosha News reported.

The organizers said two other similar forums, set for March 14 and 21, will be held to discuss the impact on local government and policy respectively, as well as on Wisconsin and beyond.

The Wisconsin government and Foxconn last year signed a deal on building a display screen plant worth 10 billion U.S. dollars.

Foxconn is expected to hire as many as 13,000 local workers, making its project one of the largest green field investments by a foreign-based company in U.S. history as measured by jobs.

Foxconn is the world's largest contract electronics manufacturer.
