The International Boxing Federation (IBF) announced Friday it is set to establish its IBF Belt and Road (B&R) Region and launch of the IBF Silk Road Champions tournament.
Under the China-proposed One Belt, One Road initiative, the B&R region is made up of approximately 70 countries and regions spanning from Asia, through Africa and the Middle East, to Europe.
The IBF will first establish the IBF B&R Region within the organization and create the IBF B&R title while developing the B&R ratings. The Silk Road Champions tournament participants will be selected from the rating system.
The first event of the tournament is planned to take place in October of 2017 in China tied in with the first IBF B&R Regional Convention.
"The IBF is the first one to apply the B&R relevant developing plan among the international sports organizations, marking our focus and commitment to China and the countries in this region," noted IBF President Daryl Peoples.
