China's City Football League, one of the country's amateur football tournaments, has been renamed City Football Super League, the organizers said Saturday.
Allowing foreign players to join, the amateur league is being upgraded to be semi-professional and expanding to the United States and Britain.
According to the organizers, 10 to 20 teams in the United States and Britain will compete in the overseas divisions of the City Football Super League. The players in these teams are mainly overseas Chinese. The champions from these two divisions will attend the grand final stage of the league in China.
Since its establishment in 2015, the former China's City Football League has attracted more than 100,000 amateur players in China.
The objective is to build a football platform where Chinese people around the world can interact with each other and to enhance the communication of football between Chinese people and people from foreign countries.
The organizers said that the league is seeking mutual aid in operations from football clubs in the English Premier League and Spain's La Liga this year.
