Chinese spinter Su eyes new national record for outdoor season

After his Asian-record-breaking feat in 60 meters in the indoor season of 2018, China's star sprinter Su Bingtian has already set his next goal - renewing his own 100m national record of 9.99 seconds.

The 28-year-old Su has been enjoying a flying start to 2018. He bettered the 60m indoor Asian record three times in 36 days and notched a silver medal at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham earlier this month.

It was also the best result ever achieved by an Asian sprinter in this event.

Now Su is ready to extend his sharpness in 60m to the 100m track. "My goal for the outdoor season is simple: dipping under the 10-second barrier once again and improving my personal best of 9.99s," Su said here on Tuesday.

"I have been resting after the World Indoor Championships and just resumed training this week. I will start a training camp in Hong Kong in two weeks to focus on the 100m," he said. "If everything goes well, I will start my outdoor season in Shanghai at the Diamond League race."

Su became the first Chinese to break the 10-second barrier in 2015 when he set the Chinese record of 9.99s at the Diamond League Eugene meeting.

Later at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, he sprinted to 9.99s once again to establish himself as the first Asian sprinter ever to make it into the 100m final at the World Championships.
