  Fuqing Rongqiao Economic and Technological Development Zone was approved as state-level deveopment zone on October 21,1992. The zone has a developed area of 10 square kilometers.
  
  Geographical Location
  Fuqing, the coastal city in east Fujian Province is located between Fuzhou, the province`s capital city, and Xia`men, 45 kilometers away from the Changle International Airport of Fuzhou. It lies on the east coast of the Taiwan Straits, and is only 80 nautical miles away from Taiwan`s Xinzhu City.
  
  Communication and Transportation
  Road
  Fuqing enjoys a road density of up to 49.5 kilometers per hundred square kilometers, including the Fuzhou-Quanzhou Expressway, National Highway 324 which runs across the city, Dazhen Highway leading to the Longgao region, and Fubei Highway that connects FETDZ with the Yuanhong Investment Zone.
  
  Harbor
  There are many fine natural harbors in Fuqing. The city embraces two bays, the Xinghua Bay at the city`s north end and Fuqing Bay at its south end. Its three major harbors -- Songxia, Niutouwei and Jiangyinbitou form a triangle and have the potential of building over 40 medium-sized berths, more than 100 deepwater berths and a large deepwater berth with the capacity of over 300,000 tons. It owns a 30,000-tonnage dock and a 3000-tonnage container terminal. A 50,000-tonnage container terminal is also under construction in Jiangyinbitou Harbor.
  
  Industrial Structure
  Core industries in the Zone cover electronics, automobile parts, plastic cement, food processing and building materials.
  
  Investment Priorities
  The Zone has planned to focus on the transformation of local traditional agriculture into modern agribusiness. Focus is given to develop the four major industries of IT, glass, engineering plastic cement and food processing. Hi-tech projects are to be nurtured and developed. The Development of tertiary industry is to be accelerated. Other industries that are particularly encouraged in the Zone include:
  1. modern hi-tech agriculture, decorative plants, and wasteland reclamation and development;
  2. safe and effective pesticides;
  3. forage additives and albumen in forage;
  4. new and highly effective enzyme production;
  5. high quality synthetic fibers and fabrics dyeing and after-dyeing treatment;
  6. special textiles for industrial use;
  7. ports, wharfs and warehouses and their supporting facilities;
  8. engineering plastics and plastic alloy manufacturing;
  9. high-value-added precise chemical products of low pollution;
  10. treatment and recycle of waste gas, water and residue;
  11. auto exhaust purifier, catalyst and other assistant agents;
  12. heat-resistance and insulation materials;
  13. new instruments and components;
  14. precise modules and dies;
  15. precise bearings and bearings for special uses;
  16. new electronic components and electric parts;
  17. photo-electronic devices, sensors, and transducers;
  18. large and medium-sized computers;
  19. compatible digital TV and HDTV and digital cassette recorders;
  20. semiconductor and photo-electronic materials;
  21. new monitors (plate displays and screens);
  22. electronic appliances, instruments and modules;
  23. new printing machines;
  24. new building materials.
