Ningbo Daxie Development Zone, approved in March 1993, was jointly developed by CITIC and local government. It lies in the Daxie Island, and has a developed area of 5.92 square kilometers

  Geographical Location
The Daxie Island finds itself around the middle of China`s coastline, at the intersection of the coastline and the Yangtze River watercourse. It is about 40 kilometers from here to Ningbo proper, and the crow-fly distance to Shanghai is about 100 kilometers. Daxie borders with Beilun Port to the west, the East China Sea to the east and close to the deep-water international sea-lanes, and is less than 500 meters away from the closest point of the continent to the south.

  Climate
Daxie enjoys a humid subtropical monsoon climate with four distinct seasons. The average yearly temperature is 16.3 centigrade, and the average annual rainfall is 1,297 millimeters.

  Communication and Transportation
  Port
As one of China`s four deep-water ports designed for international ocean transport, Ningbo Port is linked by sea-lanes with more than 500 ports in over 80 countries and regions. There are container liners to the United States, European and other countries, and tramp steamers to Singapore, Australia and other main destinations. The construction of a 200,000-tonnage multi-functional wharf will be completed soon in Daxie.

  Airport
Ningbo Airport has over 30 air routes to Hong Kong, Macao (via Hong Kong), Taipei, Kaohsiung and other big cities. And within three hours of drive from Ningbo, there are Xiaoshan International Airport, Hangzhou International Airport, Hongqiao International Airport, and Pudong International Airport.

  Railway
The Zone is by way of Xiaoshan-Ningbo Railway connected to two lines of the national railway network, the Shanghai-Hangzhou and Zhejiang-Jiangxi Railways.

  Road
The Shanghai-Hangzhou-Ningbo Highway is already open to traffic, and the coastal expressway from Heilongjiang to Sanya of Hainan Province will go across Ningbo.

  Mainland-Island Connection
With an investment of nearly RMB 450 million yuan, Daxie Bridge has opened to traffic facilitating the transportation from the island into the national road network.

  Industrial Structure
Ningbo Daxie Development Zone gives priority to petrol chemical industry. BP, SINOPEC, and other Chinese and foreign companies have set up their operations here.

  Investment Priorities
Infrastructure, such as port, wharf, storage and transshipment, warehousing and distributing of crude oil, petroleum products and liquid petrochemicals, ship building and maintenance; container building and repairing; crude oil refining; metallurgy; electromechanical products; building materials, cereals and edible oils, and aquatic products processing.
