  Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone was approved as state-level development zone on August 25th 1994. It now has a developed area of 4.34 square kilometers.
  
  Geographical Location
  Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone (UETDZ) is located 10 kilometers away from downtown Urumqi, the capital city of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region contiguous to the Commonwealth of Independent States. It was once an indispensable part of the Silk Road and now a gateway to the Europe-Asia Continental Bridge.
  
  Communication and Transportation
  UETDZ is 2.6 kilometers away from Urumuqi International Airport, 3 kilometers from the North Railway Station, 6 kilometers from the West Railway Station (a pivotal station) and close to State Highway 312 (first-class highway).
  
  Natural Resources
  Xinjiang has a vast territory and is abundant in energy resources such as oil and coal.
  
  Pillar Industries
  Pillar industries represented by furniture, electrical appliances and wine brewing have come into shape in the zone.
  
  Investment Priorities
  UETDZ encourages the development of the following industries: comprehensive development and fine processing of the products of local resources; new and hi-tech industries such as information technology, bio-engineering, new energy and new material development and environmental protection; export processing industries with Middle and West Asia and Europe as target markets; and the tertiary industry involving scientific research, finance, trade, tourism, information service, consulting and intermediary, and community services.
