CARREFOUR SA plans to recruit tens of thousands of new employees to support its future expansions in the next three years, Oriental Morning Post reported today.

The biggest overseas retailer in China will recruit 3,000 senior managers and 40,000 regular employees to work for its new outlets, said Meng Yiyan, the human resource executive of Carrefour China.

Carrefour has opened 75 outlets since it entered the Chinese market in 1995 and became the No. 1 foreign retailer in China with sales of 17.4 billion yuan (US$2.18 billion) last year.

“Carrefour will demand a lot of high-quality managers to meet with the fierce competition,” said Shi Rongle, the president of Carrefour China.

The company signed a contract with China-Europe International Business School yesterday, saying that it will donate 100,000 euro (US$128,410) to the school over the next three years and recruit elite MBA students from it.

Shi said that the company hasn’t decided on the number of outlets it will implement over the next three years yet, but the employee recruitment plan can support the operation of 80 outlets in the country.

Carrefour will further develop through mergers and acquisitions.
