China The Chinese stock markets closed up Monday. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index climbed 34.64 points, or 2.15 pct, to close at 1,648.54, and the Shenzhen share Index jumped 110.87 points, or 2.63 pct to close at 4,327.89. The Hang Seng Index closed up 68.67 points or 0.43 pct at 15,963.77, off a low of 15,919.13 and high of 16,006.07. Australian Share prices closed higher as investors bought resource and banking stocks, but trading volumes were well down with US and UK markets closed for long weekends, dealers said. The S&P/ASX 200 rose 55.8 or 1.10 pct to close at 5,109.5, closing the gap to the May 11 record high of 5,364.5. The S&P/ASX 200 closed at the day¨s high and above the low of 5,071.1. The All Ordinaries Index gained 55.2 points or 1.10 pct to close at 5,069.9.
