  The Chinese stock markets closed up Monday.
  
  The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index climbed 34.64 points, or 2.15 pct, to close at 1,648.54, and the Shenzhen share Index jumped 110.87 points, or 2.63 pct to close at 4,327.89.
  
  The Hang Seng Index closed up 68.67 points or 0.43 pct at 15,963.77, off a low of 15,919.13 and high of 16,006.07.

  In Japan, the Nikkei 225 Stock Average slipped 0.3 percent to 15,915.68.
