for the Dragon Boat Festival at a handicraft stand in Shantang Street,
Suzhou City, June 17, 2007. This festival commemorates the ancient poet Qu
Yuan, who lived in the state of Chu during the Warring States period (475
BC to 221 BC). Qu Yuan drowned himself in the Miluo River on May 5th of
the Chinese lunar calendar in 278 BC, hoping that his death could awaken
the king to revitalize the kingdom. (Xinhua Photo)
