Having received a record number of 660,000 visitors in two months, the Dunhuang Art Exhibition closed on Saturday at the National Art Museum of China in Beijing, the Gansu Daily reported.

The exhibition, which showcased reproductions of the brilliant Buddhist art from the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang in northwestern China's Gansu Province, was well received by citizens in the capital.

The exhibition set many records in the history of the National Art Museum of China. It had the highest single-day visits (28,000 visits per day), the highest single-month visits (370,000 visits per month), and the highest visits for a single exhibition (660,000 visits).

The exhibition officially opened on Jan. 22 and featured 120 mural reproductions and 10 copies of unearthed cultural relics from the Mogao Grottoes.
