Interview with Dean Snyder: University of Chicago Graduate School of Business(4)
Z: The case study examples in leading U.S. business schools usually focus on American domestic companies. Now more and more Chinese companies go to public and being listed in NYSE and NASDAQ. Do you think their success will also be written into the cases?
S: Yes. In fact, Chinese examples are already being taught in classrooms at leading business schools in the U.S.
Z: China’s economy keeps growing and the need for first class MBA education is urgent. What is the status quo of Chicago’s outreach in China now? Do you have any plan to attract more Chinese MBA students? If that’s a two way street, then is it possible that Chicago has a branch in China soon?
S: Our Laboratory in New Product and Strategy Development has completed projects in China in recent years. Teams of students from Chicago GSB worked with a Chinese bank, with NBA star Yao Ming, and others. These not only are examples of our involvement with China, but also show the teamwork skills of our MBA students.
Each year we actively seek applications from prospective students in China. Since we do not set a limit or quota on admissions from any country or region, the number of students we enroll from China each year is based on the quality of the applications we receive. Our Asian campus in Singapore has been a success ever since it opened in 2000. Currently we have no plans to establish a campus in China, but we are planning an expansion of our entrepreneurship programs in China, India, and Central Europe.
Z: Dean Snyder, thanks so much for your time!
