Hebei Cuisine

Being the leading agricultural province in China (mainly wheat, cotton and sunflower oil), eating in Hebei is never a problem. There are many local specialties waiting for you as well as various other provincial and imperial cuisine.

The greatest of the specialties that can be found in Hebei include the Braised Chicken (Paji) of Shijiazhuang, the Motley Noodles (Zamian) of Xiaoyang, the Honey Twist (Fengmi mahua) of Tangshan, the Prawns (Duixia) & Sea Crabs (Haixie) of Qinhuangdao and the Songhua Duck Eggs (Songhua dan) - salted eggs pickled in an "interesting" mixture - from all over the province.

Much of the best of the Imperial Cuisine that can be had in the province is in or near the ancient outposts of dynastic rule, most notably in the hotels and restaurants of the charming resort of Chengde.
