  • You: Go North.
    ni(3): wang(3) bei(3).
  • Driver: Which way to the East Gate?

  • You: Go East.
    ni(3): xiang(4) dong(1).
  • Driver: May I ask, where is the bathroom?
    si(1) ji(1): qing(3) wen(4), wei(4) sheng(1) jian(1) zai(4) na(3)?
  • You: Sorry, I don't know.
    ni(3): dui(4) bu(4) qi(3), wo(3) bu(4) zhi(1) dao(4).

Hint: When naming all the directions, Chinese folks like to use the following order: East/West/South/North.
