CHENGDU, July 19 (Xinhua) -- Nine tourists were rescued after being trapped for about an hour in a park cable car that suddenly failed to work in southwest China's Sichuan Province.

The tourists, including both elders and children, were stranded on the cable car in the Panzhihua Park in Panzhihua City near midday Saturday, according to the firefighters who carried out the rescue operation.

Rescuers managed to reach them with a six-meter-long ladder and carried them down within half an hour.

They suffered no injuries in the incident.

The cable car has been suspended for a full safety check, according to park managers.
