SEOUL, July 3 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's conservative ruling party elected Park Hee-tae as its new leader on Thursday.

The new leader of the Grand National Party (GNP) will take over Kang Jae-sup to head the party for two years.

Park, 70, was the chief of South Korean President Lee Myung-bak's presidential election campaign.

After the election, Park said he will lead the ruling party to win back dwindling public support for the conservative ruling camp and help the government to revive South Korea's economy.
