YANGON, July 4 (Xinhua) -- A total of 38 villagers have been confirmed dead in a boat capsizal in the Yway River in Myanmar's southwestern Ayeyawaddy division earlier this week, according to Friday's official newspaper New Light of Myanmar.

With 82 villagers on board, the passenger motor boat, Myo Pa PaTun, leaving Pakeikkyi village for Myaungmya in the division along the Yway River sank before dawn on Tuesday due to entering of water into the stern, the report said.

The other 44 passengers were saved, the report added.

Myaungmya remains as one of the townships in the Ayeyawaddy division hard hit by a recent cyclone storm Nargis which almost totally devastated the division as well as Yangon division.

The storm has killed 84,537 people, leaving 53,836 missing and 19,359 injured according to the latest official death toll.
