ALMATY, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Russia will send another battalion to Kyrgyzstan, according to a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed Saturday, reports from Bishkek said.

Russian President Dmitri Medvedev and his Kyrgyz counterpart Kurmanbek Bakiyev signed the MOU after a bilateral meeting.

Medvedev was in Kyrgyzstan to attend the second informal summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

According to the MOU, Russia and Kyrgyzstan would reach and sign a new agreement before Nov. 1 on the status and conditions of the Russian military bases in Kyrgyzstan.

The agreement would expire in 49 years, and could be extended for another 25 years. It would deliver diplomatic preference to Russian soldiers, staff and their families in the base.

The MOU stipulated that both countries would establish a military training center in Kyrgyzstan, which would be open to all CSTO countries.

The CSTO is a security group comprised of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Leaders of all seven countries attended the summit from July 31 to Aug. 1.
