Beijing vice mayor and BOCOG executive vice-president, Liu Jingmin, paid tribute to personnel and volunteers at the BOCOG Volunteer Department on Tuesday -- Mid-Autumn Day, a Chinese lunar calendar festival that celebrates the reunion of families.
The department's responsibilities include: determining the necessity, recruitment, training, management, logistics support, and rewarding of the preliminary-phase volunteers, "Good Luck Beijing" competition volunteers, and Olympic and Paralympic Games-time volunteers; participating in organizing the advertising for and education of volunteers; and planning and organizing the "Good Luck Beijing" competition volunteer services as well as Olympic and Paralympic Games spectator services.
As of September 23, the total number of applicants for the Games-time Olympic and Paralympic volunteer and the city volunteer programs had surpassed 670,000 and 500,000, respectively.
