China Plants 5.23 mln Hectares of Trees in 2006
China planted 5.23 million hectares of trees in 2006, bringing the country's forest acreage to 175 million hectares, according to a report issued by the State Forestry Administration (SFA) on Sunday.

A compact country, it can be readily traversed in vehicles which can be hired with drivers at a very reasonable rate.

The country is home to two fine national parks, namely Yala and Willpattu. Sadly, the latter is unsafe due to Tamil insurgency. It was at Yala that I photographed these Asian elephants. They are smaller than their African counterparts-especially their ears!

Sri Lanka is surrounded by an alluring coastline and fine seafood is available in beautiful surroundings. Tragically, historic Galle was recently the subject of an insurgent attack.
