China planted 5.23 million hectares of trees in 2006, bringing the country's forest acreage to 175 million hectares, according to a report issued by the State Forestry Administration (SFA) on Sunday.

So, in 1989 I had to return to India-with a pair of the sturdy Cannon F1s. Having learnt my hard lesson, I had become familiar thoroughly familiar with my camera equipment before undertaking the expedition. Also it was now loaded with slide film. The reserve was much busier and booking an elephant and rider much harder.

Nor were tigers as much in evidence as in my previous trip. Indeed, the one pictured was the only tiger I encountered during my four day visit.

It appeared to be aware of my plight and was to be found posing on my last day there. The pic helps remind us of this magnificent animal’s direr plight, namely surviving in a country of one billion people.
