China planted 5.23 million hectares of trees in 2006, bringing the country's forest acreage to 175 million hectares, according to a report issued by the State Forestry Administration (SFA) on Sunday.

Of course this is where the chital deer spend all their time eating grass and fallen fruits dropped by the langurs above. Deer have a keener smell than monkeys and if they smell a nearby tiger they will stamp their feet on the ground as a warning which will be heard by other deer and also by the monkeys. But if tackled by a tiger, the chital deer’s impressive antlers will afford little protection.

The tiger will only succeed if it takes the speedier deer by surprise and this is where its camouflage is essential: its stripes act as “disruptive camouflage” breaking up its outline. As the precise patterns are unique to each tiger they also serve as a “barcode” aiding human identification.
