The weird vegetation on the islands adds to the enchantment. It varies tremendously between the islands, from arid cacti (caught with helpful backlighting) to lush subtropical.

Bear in mind that you will need a one week cruise to visit the more significant islands. During that time you will awake every morning in a sunlit sea cabin-always a pleasurable experience for non-sailors-and dine largely on fresh sea food. One unforgettable experience was to literally swim with seals. Armed with goggles rather than a camera I was thrilled by their skill in just avoiding touching my body as they swooped and dived around me. It comes at a cost but you cannot put a price on an experience like that.
