Gina Alice selects Chinese melodies for her debut album

Widely known as the wife of Chinese keyboard superstar Lang Lang, young pianist Gina Alice recently announced the release of her debut album Wonderworld, with support from the Universal Music Group.

Born in Wiesbaden, Germany to a South Korean mother and a German father, Gina Redlinger had her first piano lesson when she was just four years old.

By age eight, she was receiving tuition from popular Russian-German pianist Irina Edelstein, who worked as a professor at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts, Frankfurt.

“Moon Rising in the Rosy Clouds” and “Seaweed Dance” are the two recognizable Chinese melodies included in Gina’s Wonderworld. Gina said as she’s increasingly influenced by East Asian cultures and she’s fonder of Chinese music, adding that her Chinese language teacher is her mother-in-law.

“From nil to being able to speak fluent Chinese, my mother-in-law is a great teacher.” Gina said she would be happy if she could work more towards bridging Chinese music culture to the rest of the world.

In addition to playing four hands with Gina Alice, Lang Lang is also the producer of Gina’s album; a selection which ranges from the classic to contemporary genres and then to modern music, showcasing melodies from east to west.
