The use of Mar-a-Lago as former President Donald Trump's permanent home is now under legal review by the Florida town of Palm Beach, according to a report by CNN.

The U.S. cable network quotes Town Manager Kirk Blouin as saying that when Trump turned the private residence into a club, he agreed with the town to limit his stays at Mar-a-Lago. Now, some local residents say he is violating the agreement.

The report says Trump bought the real estate in 1985 and then turned it into a membership club in 1993. The plan was to turn a profit. In order to transform the private residence into a revenue-generating business, however, Trump had to agree to certain limitations. For example, there could be no more than 500 members and club members, including Trump himself. And they could not spend more than seven consecutive days at Mar-a-Lago, or more than three weeks in total a year, and so on.

At the time, Trump agreed to abide by the rules. But in fact, he had been exceeding that number by staying there far more than three weeks, according to the town manager.

CNN received an email from Blouin in which he said: "This matter is under legal review by our Town Attorney, John 'Skip' Randolph. [...] Mr. Randolph is reviewing the Declaration of Use Agreement and our Code of Ordinances to determine if former President Trump can live at Mar-a-Lago."

The manager added that the case might be an agenda item for the upcoming town council meeting scheduled for February 9. More details have not been revealed at this moment.
