司机醉驾玛莎拉蒂致2死4伤 Two killed after drunk driver slams into another car in Henan

Two people have been killed and four injured in a road accident(事故 shìgù) in the city of Yongcheng in Henan Province after a drunk driver(司机 sījī) slammed her Maserati at high speed into a BMW stopped at traffic lights on Wednesday night, according to local police.

The BMW burst into flames(起火 qǐhuǒ) on impact. Two passengers in the car were killed, and the driver seriously injured. The driver of the Maserati, surnamed Tan, was also injured, along with her two passengers.

The police said the 23-year-old Tan was drunk when she got into her car that night. She hit eight other vehicles with her Maserati before the crash involving the BMW.

Tan and her two passengers are recovering in hospital from their injuries, which are not life threatening. Police say they will be arrested on charges of violating public safety(安全ānquán) after they are discharged.

The accident sparked heated discussion(热议 rèyì) on social media in China, more than one million post published on Weibo about the accident. The majority of commenters lamented the tragic consequences of Tan's actions, and urged that more action be taken to enforce(加强 jiāqiáng) the prohibition(禁止 jìnzhǐ) against drunk driving.
