Woman with novel coronavirus pneumonia delivers healthy baby

A pregnant woman with novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) pneumonia(肺炎 fèiyán) has delivered a healthy baby in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province.

The woman was in the 38th week of her pregnancy(怀孕 huáiyùn) when she was found to have caught a fever(发烧 fāshāo) of 37.3 degrees Celsius and tested positive(阳性 yángxìng) for the novel coronavirus(冠状病毒 guānzhuàng bìngdú) on Thursday, Na Hui, vice president of the No.6 Hospital of Harbin City in the provincial capital, said Monday at a press conference.

Doctors(医生 yīshēng) decided to give her a cesarean section(剖腹产 pōufùchǎn), through which a girl weighing about 3 kg was born on the same day.

The baby tested negative(阴性 yīnxìng) for the novel coronavirus on Friday and Sunday.

The mother's body temperature had returned to normal(正常 zhèngcháng) by Sunday, Na said. Both the mother and the baby are in quarantine(隔离 gélí), with two special medical teams designated for their observation(观察 guānchá) and treatment(治疗 zhìliáo).

The hospital did not disclose the mother's name or age.
