COVID-19 treatment costs 2,396 USD per patient in China

The average(平均 píngjūn) cost(费用 fèiyòng) of treatment(治疗 zhìliáo) for COVID-19 patients on the Chinese mainland is about 17,000 yuan or 2,396 U.S. dollars, latest figures(数据 shùjù) from the National Healthcare Security Administration show.

As of March 15, China's healthcare system has spent over 750 million yuan for 44,189 patients who have been diagnosed(诊断 zhěnduàn) with COVID-19. The total cost for all confirmed and suspected coronavirus(冠状病毒 guānzhuàng bìngdú) cases came to about 1 billion yuan, which was covered by China's basic medical insurance(基本医疗保险 jīběn yīliáo bǎoxiǎn) and fiscal funds(财政资金 cáizhèng zījīn).

Nucleic-acid tests(检测 jiǎncè) are free(免费 miǎnfèi) for Chinese citizens on the mainland who have shown symptoms(症状 zhèngzhuàng).
