China to mourn COVID-19 victims on April 4

China will hold a national mourning(哀悼āidào) Saturday for martyrs(烈士 lièshì) who died in the fight against the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak and compatriots(同胞 tóngbāo) who died of the disease, according to the State Council.

During the commemoration, national flags(国旗 guóqí) will fly at half-mast across the country(全国 quánguó) and in all Chinese embassies(大使馆 dàshǐguǎn) and consulates(领事馆 lǐngshìguǎn) abroad. Public recreational activities(休闲娱乐活动 xiūxián yúlè huódòng) will be suspended(暂停 zàntíng) in the country.

At 10 a.m. Saturday, Chinese people nationwide will observe three minutes of silence to mourn the deceased(逝者 shìzhě), while air raid sirens and horns of automobiles, trains and ships will wail in grief.

哀悼 mourn; grieve; wail

Wěirén chángmián, jǔguó āidào.

伟人长眠,举国哀悼。

The whole nation mourned over the great man's death.

Wǒmen duì shòuhài zhě jiāshǔ biǎoshì āidào.

我们对受害者家属表示哀悼。

Our griefs goes to the victims' families.
