Thanks to the precise recollection(回忆 huíyì) of the first person confirmed sick in the recent coronavirus outbreak, authorities in Beijing have been able to locate the source(源头 yuántóu) of the outbreak and respond(响应 xiǎngyìng) quickly(迅速 xùnsù), reports China Central Television.

The 52-year-old man, surnamed Tang, went to a local hospital after feeling fever(发烧 fāshāo) and headache(头痛 tóutòng) on June 9 and tested positive for COVID-19 three days later.

Xinfadi, the largest wholesale market(批发市场 pīfā shìchǎng) with fruit(水果 shuǐguǒ), vegetable(蔬菜 shūcài) and meat(肉 ròu) supplies in Beijing, is suspended on Saturday, June 13,2020 for disinfection after personnel working there and the surroundings have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.[Photo: China News Service/Visual People]

While being asked about his travels, Tang provided detailed descriptions about his whereabouts since May 30, including his trip to Xinfadi Wholesale Market to buy seafood(海鲜 hǎixiān) on June 3.

This revelation played a key(关键 guānjiàn) role in leading Beijing's health authorities to investigate the wholesale market, later identifying it as the source of this coronavirus outbreak.

Tang also helped local authorities find suspected cases by providing a list of 38 people he contacted(接触 jiēchù) in the last two weeks.

Since June 13, authorities in Beijing have conducted nucleic acid tests on over 356,000 people deemed to be at high risk of contracting the virus. Meanwhile, Beijing has since upgraded its emergency response to COVID-19 from level III to II, along with enacting measures like closing(关闭 guānbì) off residential communities and schools in high-risk areas.
